Nani’s latest film, Krishnagaadi Veera Prema Gaadha is all to join the $500k club at the US box-office later this week. Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, the film was bankrolled by 14 Reels Entertainment banner and it also had newcomer Mehreen playing the lead role opposite Nani. The film narrates the story of a timid guy, who must overcome his fear to marry his childhood sweetheart. The film, which opened on February 12, collected $41k from its premieres on Thursday night, followed by $103k on Friday.
Owing to few post-production delays at the last minute, after one of the DI machines broke down, the print reached a bit late in several centres across the US, which resulted in limited number of shows on Thursday; however, the film took off quite well from Friday onwards. After accumulating a gross of $144k by the end of Friday, the film grossed $164,654 on Saturday and added another $120k on Sunday to take the weekend gross to close to $440k mark.
Incidentally, Pixel Dreams, which distributed the film across US, had priced the tickets of the film at $12. As a result, many trade analysts state that these numbers are quite impressive given the low ticket pricing. The film is poised to cross the $500k mark this week and it remains to be seen how much the film grosses in its full run. Nani’s previous film, Bhale Bhale Magadivoy had grossed close to $1.5 million at the US box-office alone, which took everyone by surprise. With Pixel Dreams expecting to recover its costs by this weekend, it certainly looks like Nani’s brand value, in the overseas market, has become a name to reckon with.
